what about the church?

Welcome to our community blog for our summer course! This is a space for conversation and thought. It is also a safe space where no question is silly and the only folks who know this site exits and can leave comments are those invited. With that said let's recap week 1:

What do we mean when we say church? This was our opening question. Our conversation centered on a place of community, that claims Christ as its reason for being. I described it this way most generally, as "a community of Christ, bought with a price, where everyone is welcome."- From Church in the Round: feminist interpretation of the church by Letty M. Russell, page 35.

Jeff had four points in this definition that I'll let him add. What else do you think the church is? Is my definition too broad?

Then we shifted to ask "How have you experienced the Church throughout your life?" We talked about whether your experiences had been mostly positive or negative. We even touched on the mission of the church. The United Methodist Denomination understands the church's mission as "Making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world."

The questions then are what does it mean to make disciples and what does it mean to transform the world?
